I wonder sometimes whether us brits as musicians and artist are doing justice to our predecessors. I sit by the radio and endlessly get force fed music that doesn’t seem to move me in any way, it seems it has been made just for the sake of making a record and of course ultimately money, which is fine, we've all got to earn a crust at the end of the day. But it just seems to me that there is more to this than meets the eye. I think that over the last few years our standards of music have dropped and we have become used to the bland, mediocre material that we hear on the radio. Of course I could be wrong, and I'm just stuck in the 60's but if you agree with me raise you're hand, stand up and be counted. We are the one's who are paying the license fee's and I'm sure we don't pay it so we can hear the latest handful of songs being played about 10 times a day until we are hypnotised into liking it and some even to buy it.
Now you may think I have a slightly bias view on this matter being a musician and artist myself who's trying to get his songs played 10 times a day on the radio but of course I think my music is the best thing since sliced bread and so would you if it was your own creation. The thing is there are allot of bands and artists out there that deserve to be heard.
It seems to me at the moment all the latest/new music that I hear is very 80's based and that is down to the artist/musician being influenced by the 80's and it's music obviously. But in my opinion, and I’m sure allot of people will disagree with me here, the 80's was and always will be the worst decade in musical history, followed closely by the 00's. Those of you, who agree with me, keep reading happily, those of you who don't, keep an open mind. Don't get me wrong there were a few good rock bands that shone a light of hope in the 80's but the majority of it was just pretentious, cheesy electronic/midi, dull, dated, badly produced horseshit! In my opinion of course and you can stop reading any time you want.
Now I'm not saying we should all start listening to 60's music and try and recreate the ''good old day's'' that would be absurd, Oasis tried and failed with that one anyway lol. What I'm saying is that instead of recreating something we should just simply, create. And that is the key ingredient missing in the music that I hear on the radio, their not all bad but there is still alot of work to be done. Getting rid of things like X Factor would be a start and a big help. I mean come on are we really all that stupid as to buy into the shite that F***ing Simon F***ing Cowell feeds us. we're just lining his pockets and he's laughing all the way to the bank, Zig and Zag Man!!!! It's not right, it's got to stop. He is a music serial Killer and we are his victims. And the sooner everybody that watches that horrific show sees that there is so much more to gain from music than getting exited about who's in or out this week the better.
Music is a language with a divine power that has been spoken and received in countless ways since the dawn of time, and it plays a part in everybody’s lives, however it may be. Unfortunately these days’ music and money go hand in hand. And this is where things get sticky because whatever the standard of the music being produced, be it pop, rock, hip-hop or kids songs, as long as the big boys upstairs are getting their checks they have nothing to worry about, especially the music there feeding us. So I say to you, next time you listen to a song on the radio and it doesn’t make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end, ask yourself, do I want more from music? Don't I deserve better than this? And if your answer is yes, come and talk to me and I will try and tend to your every musical need in any way I can. Remember, music is nothing without a soul to sing it.
Thanks for reading,
my best wishes to all of you.
Dave.
